"In 2007 the Spring Noise Conference was attended by delegates from throughout Canada, the UK, Australia, Netherlands, France & USA."

Conference Background

The purpose of the Spring Noise Conference is to provide a forum for industry, government, public, academics and acoustical professionals worldwide to share experiences and innovations in environmental and applied acoustics; specifically noise identification, measurement, regulation and control.

The Alberta Acoustics & Noise Association (AANA) Spring Noise Conference is a biennial conference held in Banff, Alberta, Canada. The 2011 conference is the 9th Spring Noise Conference on environmental and applied acoustics. Since its inception in 1993 the Spring Noise Conference has grown from a local event hosted by the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board, to a global conference that attracts delegates and speakers from around the world.

The Spring Noise Conference provides a forum for the discussion of innovations in noise control and noise control management technologies. New research, technical developments, and case studies are used to showcase advancements in noise control technology, equipment and software. The objective of the conference is to provide a specific emphasis on practical and applicable aspects of acoustical science, rather than the theoretical aspects which are well covered at other forums.

This year's theme is "What's The Buzz?: Innovations & Issues". The goal of this year's conference theme is to encourage discussion on the acoustics of new technologies and rising concerns with existing technologies.

about aana

The Alberta Acoustics and Noise Association (AANA) was formed by a committee of acoustics professionals, regulators, and suppliers in Alberta to provide an independent association to the run the Spring Noise Conference and to promote understanding of practical acoustics and noise issues in Alberta.

AANA Founding Objectives To promote an understanding of acoustics and noise issues

To host acoustic-related seminars, workshops, courses and conferences

To encourage the study of acoustics through the establishment of bursaries for students and holding student paper competitions

To obtain subscriptions and donations from shareholders and others to conduct fundraising for the activities described above, and, more generally, to raise money on behalf of other bona fide charities for the understanding of acoustics and noise issues

Did you know?

The Alberta Acoustics and Noise Association encourages the study of acoustics by the establishment of bursaries for students and holding student paper competitions.

In honor of one of the founding acousticians in Alberta, Eugene Bolstad, each conference an award is given to the student authors whose papers were voted top undergraduate and top graduate paper by the organizing committee. Since its inception in 2007 the Eugene Bolstad Award has been awarded to five student authors at the Spring Noise Conference. This award helps offset travel costs for the students to present their papers at the conference.

In 2008 AANA members alongside University of Calgary staff and students organized an undergraduate acoustics lab and a students' society called the Schulich Soundstage. Soundstage supports engineering students who play a musical instrument or have an interest in music/acoustics.
